Frequently Asked Questions

To answer some of your questions as quickly as possible, we’ve compiled a list of those most frequently asked by Midland Elementary School parents. Be sure to read more throughout this website and in our student handbook so that you’re well-informed and prepared to support your child through a successful educational journey.


How do I register my child for school?

Registration takes place in the spring of each year. To enroll, simply visit our office to fill out the necessary paperwork. When you come, please bring the following documents with you:

  • Your child’s evidence of date of birth
  • Your child’s completed immunization records
  • Your child’s physical examination reports
  • Proof of residency

If you are enrolling your child in kindergarten, he or she must be five years old by October 1 of the school year in which they will start school. See our Registration page for more information.

Is there a bus service available?

Yes, we provide bus services to our students. We consider riding the bus a privilege and expect students to follow bus rules and behave appropriately while riding the bus. Please refer to our Transportation page for bus schedules and details.

What should I do if my child must be absent?

If your child must be absent from school, please call the school office at (201) 261-7800, extension 8414 between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. to let us know your child’s name and the reason for the absence. Please keep sick children at home until they are well enough to participate in a full school day. Children must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.

What will happen if my child becomes ill while at school?

If a student becomes ill or injured, the school nurse will administer treatment and medicine as approved and necessary. We will contact you if your child is too ill to remain in school and care for the student in our nurse’s station until a parent or guardian arrives. If the situation is a medical emergency, we will follow standard emergency procedures.

Can I visit the school?

We welcome all parents to visit the school on our “Back to School” night, for pre-arranged conferences, and for special events. When visiting the school for any reason, please stop at the security desk located just inside the main entrance and obtain a visitor’s pass.

How do I volunteer?

We encourage parents and guardians to get involved in their children’s school lives. Midland PTA members plan and assist in many worthwhile activities throughout the year.
